ACCRA ARCHDIOCESE NOW AUTHORIZED TO TAKE SECOND COLLECTION AT WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie in a letter dated 18th November 2020 has decree on the issue of taking of second collections as donations for couples at weddings and for bereaved families at funerals in all parishes, rectorates, and outstations in Accra Archdiocese.

This comes at a time most parishioners persuaded him during his pastoral visits in almost all parishes and outstations visited to correct the issue of taking second collections at weddings and funeral Masses.

The Chief Shepherd,  after consulting with his College of Consultors and Council of Priests and subsequently consulted with Priests at an assembly on 18th November 2020 finally decided that effective First Sunday of Advent 2020, that is Sunday 29th November 2020 second collection will be taken at weddings and funeral Masses and the full amount will be given to the couples or bereaved families without counting.

The letter endorsed by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra stated: “I hereby, therefore, decree that effective the first Sunday of Advent,2020 second collections should be taken in all parishes and stations during weddings and funerals and the amounts realised be given in full, without counting, to the couples, or to the bereaved families as the case may be”.
