Apostolic Nuncio Brian Udaigwe called to leave Benin for another country

On Saturday, June 13, 2020, Pope Francis appointed the Apostolic Nuncio to Benin and Togo as Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka. Monsignor Brian Udaigwe will therefore leave Benin in the next few days to go to his new country of assignment.

Bishop Brian Udaigwe, 55, of Nigerian origin, was appointed on 8 April 2013 by Pope Francis, Apostolic Nuncio to Benin and Togo. He succeeded Archbishop Michael Blume, who was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda on February 2, 2013.

Born in 1964 in the English-speaking part of Cameroon, ordained priest on 2 May 1992 for the Nigerian Diocese of Orlu, Bishop Udaigwe entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1994. He held various positions in Zimbabwe, Côte d’Ivoire, Haiti, Bulgaria and Thailand before becoming chargé d’affaires at the Apostolic Nunciature in London (UK), alongside Bishop Antonio Mennini.
