The golden jubilee of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Odorkor-Tipper has been gracefully remembered with the dedication of a new grotto by The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp.
The newly consecrated “Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Grotto” will serve as a prayer centre for both Catholics and non-Catholics near and far. From the humble beginning of October 12, 1969 with four gallant founders known as Mr. James Yaw Acheampong, Mr. Francis Yaw Donkor, Mr. Anthony B. Arthur and Mr. Kumah , who through their relentless sacrifices and efforts started the community to evangelize and to prepare the way for the lord, made sure that the church still stands.
After the first Holy mass was said upon the permission of the late Rev. Fr. Paul Van Riel S.V.D, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Odorkor-Tipper has been raised to a parish level and now boasts of nearly 1000 membership. Two outstations: St. Dominic Catholic Church, Mallam and New Gbawe Community; not forgetting a number of priest and religious brothers and sisters the parish has produced to feed God’s vineyard.
On the occasion of the climax of 50th Anniversary of the church, Parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Odorkor-Tipper, heartwarmingly received friends and well-wishers early hours of Sunday, 20th October, 2019 to witness the historic Eucharistic celebration.
Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp who was on a two-day visit to the church said as soldiers of Christ, the out pouring of the Holy Spirit and the way of the Holy Scriptures give wisdom to show candidates the way to salvation. However, individuals’ show their fragility by giving-in to temptations, short cut are dangerous but if Christians are going to remain faithful to God then Our Country will know developments and the poor will have some comfort.
As part of the event, One hundred and four, 104 candidates received the sacrament of confirmation; out of 104 candidates 49 candidates came from Mary Mother of Good Council Catholic church, Airport-West while 39 candidates was from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Odorkor and 18 candidates was represented from, St. Dominic Catholic Church, Mallam.
Archbishop Kwofie lauded the efforts of God parents of the candidates for spiritually generating more children to add to theirs. He urged the confirmants to link-up with their God parents in times of difficulties especially at home; likewise, he charged God parents to help the candidates to excel in all spheres of life because the choices they make in life are important to their salvation, he said.
Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of Baptismal grace hence becoming a full member of the universal church and also strengthens the spiritual life of the baptized.
